MORE DIFFICULT: You can drop off your payment (check, money order or cash) at our office, but we recommend calling ahead; we are a very small staff, and there are times we must close the office for trainings, unexpected absences, or off site events. HARDEST: Some people prefer to call in and make a payment over the phone. Please be aware that we charge a $10 surcharge for all phone payments due to the staff time involved. You are responsible for ensuring that your payment is made on time. If you cannot reach our office to make a payment, you are responsible for paying by another method within your grace period.
Regardless of payment method, save your receipts as proof of payment.
What if I can't make my full payment, or can't pay on time?
If you are having financial difficulties, contact the Loan Program Coordinator as soon as possible to discuss.
If you have an Opportunity Loan or a Security and Success Loan (you received a check when you signed your loan documents), we may be able to give you extra time to make your payment, or, in serious cases of financial hardship, we can discuss a payment modification plan. Please contact us before your payment is late!
If you are part of our Credit Builder program (you did not get a check when you took out your loan of $150, $300, or $600) and you are having trouble making payments, please contact us to discuss early closeout. If you can’t make every payment on time, it is better to close out early and try again in the future to avoid damaging your credit. Closing out early will not hurt your credit!
For all loans, please click here for our Delinquent Loan Policy.
I’m already behind on my loan, what can I do?
Please don’t hesitate to contact us, even if you are very behind on your loan. We will be happy to hear from you! Contact the Loan Program Coordinator immediately if you are late. We may be able to give you some extra time, or work out a payment modification, even if you are already behind on your loan.
Can I pay my loan off early?
Yes! We have no penalties for prepayment, which means you can always pay your loan off if you choose.
If you would like to pay off your loan in full, please contact us for a payoff statement, since the payoff amount changes daily due to interest.
Can I take out another loan?
In most cases, yes! You must pay off any existing loans before applying for a new loan. If you have not been 30 days late more than once on your current loan without permission, you can apply for another loan. Contact our office for an application.
Credit builders are also welcome to reapply if they wish to continue using our program to build credit.
How can I use my loan to help build credit?
Make payments on time or communicate with us! Every payment that is 30 days or more late hurts your credit. If you let us know you are going to pay late, we can work with you so that it doesn’t harm your credit.
Borrow only what you can repay!
Pay your other bills on time. Remember, bills like rent and utilities only show up on your credit report if you are late, so it’s important to pay them!
Learn about what is on your credit report. Sit down with an IC$ coach to go over your credit report and come up with a debt management plan. Even if you are unable to pay your debts right now, it’s still good to know what is on your report!
Use your revolving credit lines (credit cards) wisely. Keep your balances below 30% of the credit limit and always make payments on time.
If possible, don’t close any credit lines that you don’t need to. Try to use your credit cards once every six months to keep them active. Having accounts for a long time boosts your credit.
Remember that applying for new credit can hurt your credit score. Don’t apply for credit you don’t need.
We can refer you for a secured credit card at a local credit union or bank to further build your credit. Talk with and IC$ staff member to see if a secured card makes sense for you

Client Protection Guidelines
We maintain a client-centered approach to its work in line with the Center for Financial Inclusion's Beyond Codes guidelines on Client Protection. These guidelines encourage microfinance institutions worldwide to advance six principles:
Avoidance of Over-Indebtedness. IC$ takes reasonable steps to ensure that credit will be extended only if clients demonstrate an adequate ability to repay and the loans will not put them at a significant risk of over-indebtedness.
Transparent Pricing. In accordance with this principle and applicable law, our pricing, terms and conditions of financial products (including APR, interest charges, finance charges, etc.) are transparent and adequately disclosed in a form understandable to clients.
Appropriate Collections Practices. Our debt collection practices are not abusive or coercive.
Ethical Staff Behavior. Our staff complies with high ethical standards in their interaction with clients and we ensure that adequate safeguards are in place to detect and correct corruption or mistreatment of clients.
Mechanisms for Redress of Grievances. We have timely and responsive mechanisms for complaints and problem resolution in place for our clients.
Privacy of Client Data. The privacy of individual client data is respected and such data is not used for purposes other than serving the client and reporting to donors without the express permission of the client.
